Samoa Conservation Society Inc

Saving Samoa’s national bird, the Manumea from extinction, will require significant behaviour change. In particular, a reduction in hunting pressure. The Samoa Conservation Society has been running a series of ads on TV in English and Samoan to raise awareness of the threat to the Manumea from hunting and appealing to Samoans to reduce hunting to save the bird. We have involved a number of celebrities in our social media work- including famous Samoan comedian- Tofiga Fepulea’i. We have also painted 6 Manumea murals on prominent walls on both Upolu and Savaii islands to remind all Samoans of the beauty of the bird as well as conducting school dance competitions and other outreach activities.
